Set aside a few quiet minutes, remove distractions, and allow this to be a meaningful time with Jesus.If your Starter Kit included communion elements, grab them now. If you don't have packaged communion elements, you may use a small piece of bread or a cracker and a little juice as simple reminders of Jesus' body and blood.
On the night before Jesus went to the cross, He shared a meal with His disciples. During that meal, He took bread and a cup and gave them new meaning.
Communion is a simple way Jesus gave His followers to remember what He has done for us. It gives us a chance to slow down, examine our hearts, give thanks, and refocus our lives on Him.
It also reminds us that following Jesus is not something we do alone. Through Him, we belong to one family and one body.
Reminds us of Jesus' body, given for us.
Reminds us of Jesus' blood poured out for us—the price of forgiveness and the beginning of new life.
Reminds us of Jesus' sacrifice, His victory over sin and death, and the hope we have because He is alive.
The Bible encourages us to approach communion thoughtfully—not fearfully. Take a few quiet moments with God and allow Him to search your heart.
These passages help us understand why communion matters and how Jesus calls us to approach it.
“For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”
“Everyone ought to examine themselves before they eat of the bread and drink from the cup.”
“This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.”
“Because there is one loaf, we, who are many, are one body, for we all share the one loaf.”

If you received communion elements in your Starter Kit and have used them, we'd be happy to send you more. Communion elements are provided at no cost for those participating with Sugar Creek online. Please request only what you expect to use so we can make them available to as many people as possible.
If God brought something to your mind during communion—peace, assurance, conviction, hope, something to stop doing, or something to begin—take a moment to respond.
Capture what God brought to your mind so you can remember it and continue praying about it.
Tell someone you trust and invite them to encourage you and help hold you accountable.
Keep talking with God about what He showed you. Ask someone you trust to pray with you as you continue following Jesus.
