Part 4 | The Most Incredible Prophecy

Daniel 9 | February 1, 2026

Dr. Mark S. Hartman, Lead Pastor - SCBC

God hears our prayers and answers them. He hears you when you pray and He answers it at that moment.

God said, “Daniel I am giving you a prophecy that will bring in the first coming of the Messiah and then the 2nd Coming of the Messiah and all of this is prophecy for the Jewish people.

1. THE PROPHECY FROM DANIEL 9 ABOUT THE MESSIAH INVOLVES 490 YEARS OF PROPHECY FOR THE JEWISH PEOPLE.  (Daniel 9:24)

A. Daniel 9:24  Seventy ‘sevens’ are decreed for your people and your holy city to finish transgression, to put an end to sin, to atone for wickedness, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy.

1. It is for the Jewish people.

2. It involves 490 years of prophecy.

3. At the end of these 490 years there are some particular things that will be accomplished for and in the Jewish people:

a. First, there will come an end to THE transgression.

b. Second, there will come an end to sin.

c. Third, there will be reconciliation for sin.

1. Romans 5:1  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,

2. Zechariah 12 & 13 talks about a day at the end when the Jews will recognize that Jesus was the Messiah all along.  In Romans 11:23-32, Paul talks about a day when the Jewish people who are alive at the coming of Christ will come to recognize that Jesus was their Messiah all along.  The Jews who are alive on that day will come to Christ and come to know Him as their Messiah.

d. Fourth, it will bring in everlasting righteousness.

e. Fifth, it will seal up the vision and prophecy.

B. God said to divide the 490 years into three parts.  The first 2 parts are: 49 years to rebuild Jerusalem and 434 years for the Messiah to come after that.  Those two parts will bring in the Messiah. In total, the 1st coming of the Messiah will happen at the end of 483 years of the prophecy.

1. What triggers that clock to start is: Daniel 9:25  Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens,’ and sixty-two ‘sevens.’

2. The time span is from the decree to rebuild Jerusalem to the coming of the Messiah, the Anointed One will be 483 years.

3. History shows that Artaxerxes issued the decree allowing Nehemiah to rebuild Jerusalem on March 5, 445 BC.

a. 483 years X 360 days for a Jewish calendar is 173,880 days.

b. Take 173,880 days and divide them by the Roman calendar we use nowand it will land on March 30, 33 AD.  March 30, 33 AD was “Palm Sunday” that year.

Sir Robert Anderson, The Coming Prince.

Dr. Harold Heohner, former Professor of New Testament, Dallas Theological Seminary wrote a masterful work called the Chronological Aspects Of The Life Of Christ.  (His book demonstrates that the only date that fits the astrological descriptions of the crucifixion, the politics of the Roman Empire and the alignment of the Gospels accounts is 33 AD.)

Dr. John Walvoord, DANIEL. In the book DANIEL, the charted timeline in your student notes was published.

4. According to these distinguished scholars, Daniel’s prophecy completely lines up with Palm Sunday on the year 33 AD.  Jesus rode into the city on a donkey presenting Himself as the Anointed One.

5. Daniel 9:25-26  Know and understand this: From the issuing of the decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until the Anointed One, the ruler, comes, there will be seven ‘sevens’, and sixty-two ‘sevens’.  It will be rebuilt with streets and a trench, but in times of trouble. 26 After the sixty-two ‘sevens’, the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing.

C. The second part of the prophecy… the last 7 years. (Daniel 9:26)

1. Daniel 9:26  After the sixty-two ‘sevens’, the Anointed One will be cut off and will have nothing. The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end will come like a flood: War will continue until the end, and desolations have been decreed.

2. In 70 A.D. the Romans came into Jerusalem led by Titus and totally destroyed it and the Temple.  That event was a fulfillment of prophecy from Daniel 9 and from Jesus’ own words in Matthew 24. From 70 AD until 1948 the Jews had no country and had no peace.

3. Daniel 9:27 The Antichrist will confirm a covenant with many for one ‘seven’. In the middle of the ‘seven’ he will put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on a wing of the temple he will set up an abomination that causes desolation, until the end that is decreed is poured out on him."
