1. THE “ANTICHRISTS” OF THE PAST. (Daniel 11:21-35)
A. 1 John 2:18 Children, it is the last hour; and just as you heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have arisen; from this we know that it is the last hour.
B. Daniel 11:35 Some of the wise will stumble, so that they may be refined, purified and made spotless until the time of the end, for it will still come at the appointed time.
2. A PREVIEW OF THE FINAL ANTICHRIST. (Daniel 11:36-45)
A. Four key things we discover about the Antichrist in Daniel 11:36:
Daniel 11:36 The king (the antichrist) will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.
1. The Antichrist will have a definitive plan of action and he will be given the freedom from God to do his plan.
a. In Revelation 6:1 is the passage about the 4 horsemen of the Apocalypse (the end times). The first horseman is the rider on the white horse who is the Antichrist. He will come with a bow but no arrows which suggests that he has power but doesn’t have to use it. He comes promising peace and he has an amazing ability to develop peace where there was no peace. But peace does not come entirely. The other three riders include war, famine and death.
b. In the Book of Revelation it tells us that the Antichrist will work to solidify his control through the use of a unified religion and through a unified world-wide economic system.
2. The Antichrist will exalt himself and magnify himself above every god. (Daniel 11:36)
a. Daniel 11:36 The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods.
b. 2 Thessalonians 2:3 Don't be carried away and deceived regardless of what they say. For that day will not come until two things happen: first, there will be a time of great rebellion against God, and then the man of rebellion will come--the son of hell.
c. 2 Thessalonians 2:4-5 He (the Antichrist) will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God's temple, proclaiming himself to be god. 5 Don't you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?
3. He will speak bold things against God.
Daniel 11:36 ….he will say unheard-of things against the God of gods.
4. The Antichrist will prosper. (Daniel 11:36)
Daniel 11:36 …He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.
B. About his Religion and Power. (Daniel 11:37-39)
Daniel 11:37-39 He will show no regard for the Elohim (God) of his fathers or for the one desired by women, nor will he regard any god, but will exalt himself above them all. 38 Instead of them, he will honor a god of fortresses; a god unknown to his fathers he will honor with gold and silver, with precious stones and costly gifts. 39 He will attack the mightiest fortresses with the help of a foreign god and will greatly honor those who acknowledge him. He will make them rulers over many people and will distribute the land at a price.
C. Daniel sees a great battle that will take place in Israel in the end days.
The description Daniel gives is complicated. Every resource I went to identified this battle as the Battle of Armageddon described in Revelation 9:14-18;Revelation 16:12-16; Revelation 19 and many OT sources.
