Part 2 | Unfollow

John 10 | May 17, 2026

The voice we follow will impact the life we experience.

  • Ezekiel 34:10 (NET) This is what the Lord GOD says: Look, I am against the shepherds. I will demand my flock from them and prevent them from shepherding the flock. The shepherds will no longer feed themselves, for I will rescue my flock from their mouths so that they will not be food for them.

Not every spiritual voice is spiritually safe.

  • John 10:1 (NET) I tell you the solemn truth, the one who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs in some other way, is a thief and a robber.

False voices do not guide us; they use us.

The more we know the heart of the Father, the more we recognize the voice of the Son.

  • John 10:2-6 (NET) 2 The one who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. 3 The doorkeeper opens the door for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4 When he has brought all his own sheep out, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they recognize his voice. 5 They will never follow a stranger, but will run away from him, because they do not recognize the stranger’s voice. 6 Jesus told them this parable, but they did not understand what he was saying to them.
  • John 6:45b (NET) “…Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.”

The door to salvation has only one name: Jesus.

  • John 10:7-9 (NET) 7 So Jesus said again, “I tell you the solemn truth, I am the door for the sheep. 8 All who came before me were thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters through me, he will be saved, and will come in and go out, and find pasture.

Instead of following Jesus, we create a Jesus who follows us.

Jesus did not come to take sides; He came to take over.

How do we distinguish the voice of Jesus from false voices?

1. Does this voice draw me closer to Jesus or away from Him?

2. Does this voice encourage the fruit of the Spirit or the works of the flesh?

3. Does this voice lead me toward Scripture or validate my preconceived opinions?

4. Does this voice call me to repentance or justify my behavior?

5. Does this voice lead me to love people more or despise them more?

Jesus didn’t simply come to bring us into heaven. He came to bring heaven into us.

  • John 10:10 (NET) The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.

You can’t follow Jesusvoice until you unfollow the other voices that compete with Him.
