The first thing we do when it’s dark is reach for a light.
- John 8:12 12 Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.”
- John 8:58 58 Jesus answered, “I tell you the truth, before Abraham was even born, I am!”
- John 8:59a 59 At that point they picked up stones to throw at him…
1. JESUS CAME TO BE THE LIGHT.
We reach for light when it’s comforting, but we hide from light when it’s challenging.
2. JESUS CALLS US TO FOLLOW THE LIGHT.
Jesus is the light you follow, not the flashlight you control.
3. JESUS OFFERS A LIFE THAT DARKNESS CANNOT TAKE.
- John 1:1-5 1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with God. 3 God created everything through him, and nothing was created except through him. 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it
