Stories of Change

Ted Lawson

The Power of Yes

Ted never set out to be a “missions guy.” He was a normal man with a normal life, quietly carrying a God-given desire for more—more purpose, more impact, more than the comfortable routine that fills most weeks. For years, he heard the stories, watched the videos, and felt that tug in his heart. But like many men, he stayed in his seat, unsure of where to start or if he really had anything to offer.

That changed when Ted finally said yes to a trip to Nepal. It was not a glamorous decision; it was a simple step of obedience. He stepped onto a plane as an ordinary man from Sugar Creek and stepped into a place of deep spiritual need and stunning spiritual opportunity. In villages and crowded streets, surrounded by faces and names he had never known before, Ted saw God at work—and realized that he was now part of that work.

On that trip, the adventure he had been quietly longing for finally came into focus. It was not about adrenaline or a passport stamp. It was about waking up each day asking, “Lord, how do You want to use me today?” Serving, praying, encouraging, showing up—Ted discovered that life becomes an adventure when you are available to Jesus and willing to be stretched.

Ted’s story is an invitation. If you feel that same restless desire for more than comfort and entertainment, you are not alone. You do not have to have it all figured out. You just have to take a step. Sugar Creek is here to help you find a place to serve and a trip to join. Like Ted, your yes could be the start of the greatest adventure you ever live.
